The sound is like warm maple syrup ...Clear and tasty. I am no expert, but I do know what I like. Cannot be matched by speakers costing way way more. The reviews I read do not lie,
These speakers really surprised me. I bought a pair with the Vera-Link for a second system for the open living room /dining room area. They initially sounded ok but not great. After talking toMark, I ran them for a good 50 hours and indeed they opened up and impressed me with their musicality. I was surprised with how big they sounded. This combo threw an impressive sound stage with exciting dynamics and musical instrumental timbres when playing Prokofiev’s 5th symphony with Michael Tilson Thomas and the LSO. To be honest I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. No matter what I played, they were always a joy to listen to. As the weeks have gone by they have continued to open up even more especially in the bass region. These speakers are well balanced. No need to worry about ear piercing highs or exaggerate bass. Bottom line is these speakers and amp are a pleasure to listen to and a down right bargain. Thank you Mark for bringing these excellent speakers to market.

I have tried many brands of footers, some of which made a subtle difference, many of which made no difference at all. The VBH are, hands-down, the best footers available anywhere. Used under my tube amps, I now have an absolutely black background, and using them under my Lampizator DAC has brought it to a new level of naturalness. I couldn't be happier, and dealing with Mark is always an immense pleasure!
I bought these because I have been in love with Rosewood veneer since I first saw it as an extra cost option for some $5000 speakers in the '90s. Never expected to be able to afford a pair of Rosewood veneered speakers, but then found these for under $300. I pulled the trigger, ASAP.
When they arrived, I gave them >50 hours of 85dB in room playback of the radio with them facing each other under a comforter and wired out of phase to damp down the noise. After this, I gave them a listen. Beautiful, and they sound spectacular for their price point. I felt like I won the lottery; a scratcher, not the PowerBall, but still :) I was used to a bookshelf pair w/ lite mid-bass response and slightly "crisp" highs, and these (in direct comparison) had excellent mid-bass response and are just a bit laid-back in the very highest registers to my ears. I use them with a 500-watt RMS ported 12" subwoofer crossed over at 100Hz and get good output from them with an 80-watt per channel RMS amp. Like easy, no strain, >90dB at the listening position 12' away kind of "good output". For movies, tv, and music. Plenty for me.
If you like beautiful speakers, good sound (though not detail monsters like the AMT-tweeter based speakers I have in the bedroom), and spectacular value don't be afraid to pull the trigger on these Vanguard Scouts. Just please don't expect "giant killing" sound quality for under $300, and I promise you'll be happy with your purchase.
I have had some excellent subwoofers in my time, and for music the Vanguard Caldera 12 is one of them. A small amount of the 'feel not hear it' bass is missing (when it is even present in the soundtrack) in some movies when compared to my current living room 500-watt RMS ported 12" sub (both compared when setup with Yamaha YPAO room correction at the same listening position in my bedroom). However that sub is 2.75 times the price of the Vanguard Caldera 12. That is a lot to pay for a small amount of bass not even present in all soundtracks. In music however, it is almost impossible to hear a difference in lowest frequency response. Plus, one is a black, cloth-covered tube that is ~40" tall, and the other is beautifully finished in real Rosewood veneer. Looks count, too in my book ;)
Love them. Far, far better than my Bose soundbar.
I’ve never had good speakers to listen to music on, so this was a big leap for me. I bought the Vera link combo and the 10” caldera to go with them. Mark has answered every question of mine personally and he advised that I connect the vera-link to the high pass input and then out put with some cables to the speaker and it works like a charm! Even though I am listening to music through my bluetooth on my iPhone, it sounds absolutely amazing!!
I've been on the "audio merry-go-round" for 30+ years. Downsizing a bedroom system I replaced my $4k speakers with Veri-fi's Vanguard Scouts. I was impressed, they are heavy, substantial beautiful speakers. They pass the knuckle test and sound great right out of the box. Midrange sounds nice and smooth(right) and surprising bass out of these little 2-ways! These speakers are a great value!!! Thanks Mark!
These speakers are built well and beautiful. They sound great, although I have to admit that Ihaven’t had much of a chance to listen to them a lot yet.

Just what I was looking for. A compliance sub without compromises
I wasn't having any problems but I wanted some passive speakers to pair with my vintage Pioneer SX-850. As we all know the listening experience is very subjective but I'm absolutely in love with these speakers! Beautifully clear sound and I'm hearing details from some of my old favorites I've never heard before! I live in a small home that is less than a 1000 square feet so my "listening room" is very constrained. These work under these conditions providing more than I'd hoped for. After several hours of use they seem to have only gotten better. My only suggestion is that I'd like to have some color options as an add-on for the speaker covers. They're beautifully made and veneered but I'd like to add a pop of color. I could always recover them myself but I think I'd definitely consider purchasing them for convenience. Specifically I'd like an orange, bright blue, red, and yellow option.
5 stars – Exceptional upgrade to my vintage setup!I recently added the Vanguard Scout HiFi Speakers to my rebooted vintage hi-fi system, and they're already proving to be a game-changer. The clarity and warmth they bring to my old-school turntable and amp are spot-on—rich mids and sparkling highs that make vinyl nights feel alive again. They integrate seamlessly, punching above their weight without overwhelming the room's retro vibe. That said, they did need a solid 20-30 hour break-in period to really open up. At first, the bass felt a tad tight, but now? They're sounding better with every listen—smooth, detailed, and immersive. If you're blending new tech with classic gear, these are a smart pick. Highly recommend!
Excellent built quality, a ported sub that sounds closer to sealed sub and for only 348 euros? Insane but true, the Caldera 12 will sound just as good in my room for music or home theater, i cant recommend this sub enough! Go dual for bombastic room filling low notes imo. The only gripe i have is the auto on off which turns the sub off after only 10 seconds, i would recommend at least 1+ minute of inactivity to turn off so lets hope they boys in the lab will sort this out on the next batches! Excellent job Vera Fi team!

Amazing crystal sounds for the minmum cost, use it for Streaming, Stereo and TV
I previously had a sub woofer that had come from a home cinema setup. Whilst it gave me extra base it was 'boomy' and limited in it's range. The Caldera 10 is a different experience altogether. I'm hearing bass on some recordings that I didn't know was there and it has firmness that I'd not heard before. It's extremely good value and a great addition to my system.
I purchased three Caldera 10's to go with my three pairs of Scouts. I love them, so I purchased 4 more to get small rooms 2.1 & large rooms a 2.2. I love speaker systems but I haven't had a good set up for years. I looked into this for months. I didn't know what my sound system was missing till I got the lower end filled in.
